Benefits of pilates
‘If at the age of age of 30 you are stiff and out of shape, you are old.
If at the age of 60 your are supple and strong, then you are young.’
So said Joseph Pilates. His teaching embraced both Pilates Matwork, and Pilates Equipment training. Until about 20 years ago pilates was considered highly elitist, the domain of dancers, athletes or the rich and famous who did Equipment training in a large studios.
In the past 15 years, Matwork has gone from strength to strength, and with the aid of pieces of small equipment (such as the Pilates ball, roller, band, slope and weights) has evolved into a form of exercise class which is widely accessible.
